New Castle Receives T-Mobile Hometown Grant to Support Craig County Farmers Market

The Town of New Castle, which is the county seat of Craig County, received a T-Mobile Hometown Grant, totaling $50,000, to build a covered colonnade pavilion at the Craig County Farmers Market. The project will help foster local connections, support merchants and farmers so that they can better sell their goods, and aid the creation of an entertainment venue and gathering space for the community.

“This project addresses a critical need in our community by enhancing access to fresh, locally produced food for our residents, while creating economic opportunity for our farmers and small businesses.”

Jesse Spencer, Chairman of the Craig County Board of Supervisors

In this latest round of Hometown Grants awarded, the Town of New Castle is one of only 25 communities across the country (600 applied) that received funding to bring an impactful community development project to life. New Castle also represents one of five communities from Virginia to receive a Hometown Grant from T-Mobile since the program started in 2021. The other Virginia communities include Luray, Staunton and Stuart (awarded twice).

“The T-Mobile Hometown Grant program has made a massive impact in small towns and rural communities across the country. Grantees have renovated historic spaces, built new playgrounds and parks, and spurred innovative placemaking projects that are bringing community members together in new and meaningful ways. We are thrilled to partner with T-Mobile and Smart Growth America to continue this important work in places that are too-often overlooked.”
