Recently, the Virginia Main Street (VMS) team received an Innovation Award from the Virginia Department of Housing & Community Development (DHCD) in recognition and appreciation of their outstanding service and contribution to the agency, specifically the game-changing new Mobilizing Main Street (MMS) program. The program provides capacity building services to prepare participating communities for the responsibilities of Advancing Virginia Main Street designation and maintaining Main Street America Community Accreditation.

Through grassroots leadership and a strong commitment to holistic preservation-based economic development, 10 participants from Big Stone Gap, Buena Vista, Clarksville, Colonial Beach, Covington, Galax, Martinsville, Hilton Village in Newport News, Petersburg, and Phoebus in Hampton are currently working to create a lasting impact for their local economy and community as a whole.
