The Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) celebrates the remarkable achievements of pandemic-era grant funding that has transformed the Charlottesville community!
In 2022, the New Hill Development Corporation (NHDC) received a $150,000 Virginia Business District Resurgence Grant (VBDRG) from the DHCD Virginia Main Street program and a $189,000 GO Virginia grant to support the creation of a business accelerator, commercial kitchen and co-working space for Black food and beverage entrepreneurs in and around the Carlton / Belmont community of Charlottesville.
New Hill Development Corporation launched the first phase of its Black Entrepreneurial Advancement and Community Opportunity Network (BEACON) program, a powerful business incubator dedicated to uplifting Black entrepreneurs in Charlottesville who aspire to launch or scale their businesses. Nine entrepreneurs have already taken advantage of the transformative training in the program’s skills boot camp. The 10,000-square-foot kitchen stands as a beacon of hope, providing vital startup services for aspiring entrepreneurs throughout the Charlottesville area.
