A well-designed sign is more than just a marker—it’s a beacon that draws customers in, strengthens a business’s identity, and contributes to the overall vibrancy of a community’s downtown.
With that in mind, the City of Norton launched its Signage Grant Program, funded by a Rural Community Development Initiative (RCDI) grant, to support local businesses in enhancing their visibility and presence in the heart of the city. Through the program, eligible downtown businesses could apply for grant funding of up to $2,500 to purchase and install new signage or improve existing signage. Originally, the program set out to assist at least 12 new or existing small businesses, but due to strong participation, it ultimately provided funding to 13 businesses in the downtown district.

This program played a key role in not only improving the aesthetic appeal of downtown Norton but also in making it easier for vehicle traffic and pedestrians to locate local businesses. Signage is often the first impression a business makes, and with this investment, businesses have been able to upgrade their visibility, attract new customers, and contribute to a more cohesive and welcoming downtown atmosphere.
By offsetting the costs associated with signage improvements, the City of Norton helped small business owners make impactful enhancements without bearing the full financial burden. Programs like this demonstrate the power of strategic investment in downtown areas—small changes that can yield big results. With its fresh new look, downtown Norton is more inviting than ever, ensuring both residents and visitors can easily find and support the businesses that make the community thrive.
