What will your downtown be like in 10-15 years? Is that future bright? The most successful towns understand they must nurture that community core to make it happen.
On May 14, from noon-1 p.m., Virginia Main Street is offering a free webinar on the basics of the Main Street Approach for preservation-based downtown revitalization, which has been used in Virginia and nationwide for almost 40 years.
Creating thriving small- and mid-sized towns is no small task. It requires local leaders, business owners and community residents to come together to identify their assets, strategically situate themselves in their regional economy and develop a shared vision and identity to sell to the world. Communities make this vision a reality by creating quality public spaces, prioritizing local entrepreneurship and supporting downtown housing. To achieve this, community leaders need a strategic, outcome-oriented revitalization approach.
In the webinar, you will learn how to utilize the approach to create economic impact in your community. New downtown managers, board members and other stakeholders of historic commercial districts are encouraged to participate, as are experienced Main Street staff and municipal partners who want a refresher in the national model.
