In Southwest Virginia, Downtown Wytheville, a designated Virginia Main Street (VMS) community, recognizes the value of a dynamic downtown and an atmosphere where businesses succeed and thrive. Today, as the novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic continues to linger, Wytheville’s local Main Street organization remains committed to bolstering economic vitality while ensuring that residents and visitors alike know that downtown merchants are open for business, and the community will rise above any challenge!
Recently, Downtown Wytheville Inc. (DWI) released a promotional video, highlighting an important reality that persists during the ongoing pandemic – who we buy from now will decide who is standing later. The need to support small businesses has never been greater, and DWI has been rallying folks to realize that #wewillriseabove.
“Due to these trying times, businesses have been struggling and the community’s morale needed a boost. I thought creating a promotional video, showcasing our community and merchants in a positive light, would inspire people to support small businesses, now more than ever. Thankfully, I was able to show pictures and videos from a time when COVID-19 wasn’t the center of attention, and our community was thriving. Interestingly, I heard from many local businesses and residents how the video ‘gave them hope’ and was ‘uplifting’ for numerous reasons. It was my goal to help everyone remember that we are better together and focus on something positive. I’m grateful that the video has brought needed attention to small businesses!” – Todd Wolford, Executive Director, DWI
