The Virginia Department of Historic Resources (DHR) has begun soliciting applications for the 2022-2023 Survey and Planning Cost Share Program to help local governments in meeting their preservation planning goals!
Cost share projects are funded through a partnership between DHR and a local government and/or regional planning district commission, and eligible projects usually encompass a broad range of survey and planning activities, protection of historic resources through identification, documentation and evaluation and preservation planning activities consistent with the responsible stewardship of historic resources.
If you’d like to learn more about the 2022-2023 Survey and Planning Cost Share Program, information about the program and the application can be found on the homepage of the DHR website or by contacting Blake McDonald at firstname.lastname@example.org. The deadline to apply is April 01, 2022 at 4:00 p.m.
The Susie G. Gibson School in Bedford, VA was constructed in 1953 to provide “separate but equal” facilities for Bedford County’s Black high school students during the era of Jim Crow segregation. The Town of Bedford used Survey and Planning Cost Share Program funds to nominate the Susie G. Gibson School and the Bedford Training School to the National Register of Historic Places in 2021.
