Mark your calendar for the 2022 Virginia Governor’s Housing Conference (VAGHC) on November 16-18, 2022 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Virginia! For those that haven’t attended, it’s the largest housing and community development event of the year and allows Virginia’s affordable housing providers to connect with funders, lenders, realtors, nonprofits, public officials and resources to improve housing in Virginia’s communities. The conference also provides stimulating and thought-provoking information and educational sessions led by experts in housing, finance and development, while offering opportunities for excellent professional development, networking and valuable training.
Virginia’s Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) make scholarships available for students, local government and nonprofit organizations. Here is why:
- Nonprofit organizations are an important part of the delivery of housing / shelter services to low-income persons, but due to budget restraints may not be able to attend the conference.
- Local governments are key to offering incentives for affordable housing and encouraging innovative housing solutions through tools such as zoning, permitting and strategic plans and play a role in delivery of housing / shelter services to low-income persons and community development revitalization projects, but due to budget constraints may not be able to attend this year.
- Student scholarships will be geared toward those students who are majoring or interested in the delivery of housing or sheltering services, community or economic development or other appropriate activities designed to sustain healthy and safe communities.
Scholarships will cover the cost of conference registration only, and that does not include pre-conference activities or lodging. This is a competitive application process, and all requested information must be submitted to be eligible for a scholarship by Friday, September 02, 2022.
