Virginia Main Street Launches New Training Series Focused on Main Street America Accreditation Standards

In January 2023, Virginia Main Street (VMS) will kickoff a new training series to prepare Main Street community professionals and volunteers for the “switch to six” and provide an in-depth understanding of the new Main Street America (MSA) Community Accreditation Standards through real community examples from across the national network.

The first webinar in the training series will focus on broad-based community commitment to revitalization. Led by Amanda Elliott, Senior Program Officer and Director of California Programs at MSA, participants will explore the first new Standard, “Community Commitment to Revitalization,” which reframes community support as community commitment.

Successful and sustainable revitalization efforts are not just the work of a single organization but should be the result of a community-wide effort that brings the public and private sectors together with a strong sense of ownership in their downtown or commercial district. Main Street organizations have an essential role in fostering a culture of inclusion, engagement, collaboration and commitment from all sectors of the community. Launching a program, growing it incrementally from one year to the next and sustaining long-term success are only possible through a diversity of strong partnerships and collaborations, outreach and communication.
