Last month, Virginia Main Street (VMS) had the pleasure of inviting Katie Campbell, a Certified Volunteer Administrator that has worked with non-profits and volunteers for over 30 years, to present on the topic of Strategic Volunteer Engagement to the VMS network in South Boston, Lexington and Tappahannock.
Katie provided a comprehensive overview of the full volunteer engagement cycle, including:
- Preparing an Organization to Have Volunteer Opportunities
- Volunteer Recruitment
- Supporting Volunteer Involvement and Growth
- Documenting & Communicating Volunteer Activity and Impact
- Recognition of Volunteer Contributions and Achievements
The interactive workshops engaged participants with real-world scenarios and thought exercises to dig deeper into strategies and activities to increase organizational capacity. For example, after breaking down different types of recruitment the attendees were divided into groups and explored how they would approach various audiences in inviting them to volunteer for their organizations.
The Spring Rev-Up training provided valuable insights not only for the VMS network but community partners and local leaders. With Katie’s expertise and interactive exercises, attendees gained practical strategies to enhance their volunteer management practices, as well as the resources to foster meaningful connections with volunteers and recognize and celebrate their vital contributions every step of the way.
Participants received a digital Volunteer Engagement Resource Toolkit filled with resources that offer practical support in comprehensive volunteer engagement.
