The Main Street Approach – A Catalyst for Community Revitalization

“Our downtown has become the place where people want to visit, play, work, and live”.

This is a statement most anyone would want to make about their community, but all too often the task is overwhelming. Where to start when there is so much that could be done?  How do you put together the resources – the time, talent, and treasure – to make a meaningful impact? If your community is ready to learn about how to utilize one of the most powerful economic revitalization tools in the country, then we have answers for you!

The Virginia Main Street 2019 Downtown Intersections event in Lynchburg, Virginia will feature Kathy La Plante, Senior Program Officer and Director of Coordinating Program Services at the National Main Street Center, providing a “how to” for new community revitalization organizations, as well as those looking for organizational sustainability. This workshop session will be held Monday, July 22nd from Noon to 3 PM. Kathy works throughout the U.S. providing training for cities of all sizes using the Main Street Approach® to downtown revitalization.  Kathy will provide an overview of the Main Street Approach, highlighting the importance of engaging the community in revitalization planning, developing a set of district-specific strategies, implemented through work across the Four Points, and tracking and communicating meaningful impact measures.

Whether you have just heard of the Main Street Approach and would like to learn more about the program, or are planning to apply to become an Affiliate, Designated Virginia Main Street community, or Virginia Downtowns partner, this is the perfect opportunity to come and find out how you can engender meaningful and sustainable change in your community.  It is also an ideal session for new Board Members or staff in VMS communities and their partner organizations to get a greater understanding of our work. This workshop is just $25 and includes lunch – act now, this session is limited to 100 seats! You can sign up for just this session, or view the full Downtown Intersections program at this link

All that are interested in being a catalyst for community change are welcome. We are excited to provide this opportunity for you, and look forward to seeing you there!
