City of Buena Vista Launches Main Street Pilot Program

Excitingly, the City of Buena Vista, VA has announced the creation of a new Main Street pilot program for downtown Buena Vista that’s designed to test the viability of such a program in the city. The pilot program was a top recommendation from Buena Vista’s new Downtown Revitalization Plan and will be led by Jamie Goodin, local resident, who has a proven track record of community development successes. Main Street Buena Vista will focus on the following initiatives:

  • Placemaking through downtown beautification, walkability, public art, etc.
  • Events that contribute to the experiential vibrancy of Buena Vista
  • Promotions that inform, connect and engage local and regional residents, visitors and businesses
  • Achieving organizational sustainability with the help of volunteers and supportive funding programs

Downtown revitalization can prove complex, but an incremental approach built around a community’s unique heritage and attributes can work as a catalyst to bolster economic vitality and community pride. That’s why Main Street Buena Vista will follow the National Main Street Center’s (NMSC) time-tested Main Street Approach to successfully revitalize the heart of their community, and we look forward to seeing all the great things that come about from their efforts!
