Welcome Warsaw to Exploring Main Street

Every successful downtown revitalization story begins with a community that recognizes its strengths, embraces partnership, and is willing to invest in its future.

That’s why we’re excited to welcome the Town of Warsaw as the newest participant in the Virginia Main Street Exploring Main Street program.

Located in the heart of Virginia’s Northern Neck, Warsaw already has many of the ingredients that make a thriving downtown. Its historic Main Street offers a welcoming, walkable environment anchored by locally owned businesses, restaurants, community gathering spaces, and destinations like Oyster Shoals Music Hall and the Town Park. While there is still room to grow, the district enjoys strong occupancy, successful local businesses, and a sense of place that reflects the character of the community.

This next chapter builds on years of strategic investment. A 2015 DHCD Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Planning Grant helped shape a downtown revitalization plan that led to a 2017 CDBG implementation grant for façade improvements, streetscape enhancements, sidewalks, crosswalks, landscaping, and signage. In 2021, a DHCD Industrial Revitalization Fund (IRF) grant supported the rehabilitation of the historic hardware store at 124 Main Street, now home to Old Rapp Taphouse—demonstrating how thoughtful public investment can spark lasting downtown revitalization.

Today, the partnership between the Town of Warsaw and the Warsaw Richmond County Main Street Program provides the leadership needed to build on that momentum. Together, they share a vision of supporting local businesses, improving walkability and connectivity, and ensuring downtown remains the economic and social heart of the community. Their application reflects a commitment to listening to local businesses, understanding community needs, and making informed decisions that foster long-term economic vitality.

That collaborative spirit is exactly what the Exploring Main Street program is designed to support.

As an Exploring Main Street community, Warsaw will gain access to training, technical assistance, peer learning, and revitalization resources that help communities strengthen local leadership and build a roadmap for sustainable downtown success. It’s an opportunity to learn from communities across Virginia while building on the assets that already make Warsaw unique.

Welcome to the Virginia Main Street network, Warsaw! We look forward to working alongside the Town, the Warsaw Richmond County Main Street Program, local businesses, and community partners as they continue writing the next chapter for their historic downtown.
