The Town of Clarksville was bursting with color, creativity, and community spirit this spring as Historic Downtown Clarksville‘s (HDC) inaugural Flower Crawl welcomed visitors from across the region for a unique shopping experience.
The Flower Crawl began at Town Hall, which served as the official event check-in location, where participants received a vase, greenery, and baby’s breath to start their arrangements. From there, ticket holders visited more than 15 downtown businesses, collecting fresh-cut flowers at each stop while enjoying exclusive discounts, special promotions, treats, and unique shopping experiences offered by participating merchants.
The flowers themselves were provided by Avenue Floral & Designs at a discounted rate, while NAPA Auto Parts generously donated the flower buckets used throughout the event. Their support helped make the event both memorable and financially successful.

The Flower Crawl proved to be an overwhelming success, with all 40 tickets selling out prior to the event. Participants purchased tickets for $40 each and spent the day exploring downtown businesses while building beautiful custom bouquets one flower at a time. Even more impressive, the event generated a healthy profit for HDC after flower expenses were covered, demonstrating the potential of creative fundraising events that simultaneously support local businesses.
Visitors traveled from throughout southern Virginia and neighboring North Carolina to attend, alongside many local residents. Throughout the day, downtown streets were filled with groups of friends and families strolling between businesses, shopping, dining, and watching their bouquets grow with every stop.

Beyond the flowers and festivities, the Flower Crawl demonstrates how creative event programming can strengthen downtown economies. By transforming the shopping experience into an interactive adventure, participants were encouraged to visit businesses they may not have otherwise explored. The event increased foot traffic, generated sales opportunities for merchants at no cost to them, and created positive experiences that encouraged visitors to spend more time downtown.
Hosting the Flower Crawl in the days leading up to Mother’s Day added another layer of appeal. Participants were able to create beautiful, hand-selected bouquets while discovering gifts, dining options, and local retailers during one of the busiest shopping periods of the spring season.
With glowing reviews from attendees and a sold-out first year, HDC is already looking ahead. Organizers hope to double ticket sales and participation next year, building on the momentum of an event that brought new energy, new customers, and new opportunities to downtown.
If the first Flower Crawl is any indication, this new tradition is poised to continue blooming for years to come!
