Now, more than ever, we need an inspired and goal driven project that will lift the spirits and vitality of our local economies!
So, listen up! The 2020 Main Street Idea Pitch competition is going virtual November 17, 11 a.m., and the application is open now. It is a chance to flex your chops presenting a project idea to a potential donor and score a $5,000 award to make that idea happen. The competition is geared toward stimulating the Virginia Main Street network of community leaders to craft imaginative downtown project ideas, ones that connect to the community vision to create vibrant, people-centered places to live, work and invest.
Virginia Main Street Designated and Affiliate Communities are eligible to present projects that support any of the four key areas of the Main Street Approach. Some opportunities:
Organization – Launch or strengthen your community engagement efforts to create deep connections and buy-in for revitalization efforts.
Design – Make the most of your community’s unique sense of place through public art in unexpected areas.
Economic Vitality – Harness local economic opportunity and create a supportive environment for small business owners and the growing scores of innovators.
Promotion – Upgrade your digital experience to position downtown as the center of community.

The Main Street Idea Pitch is also a chance to support COVID-19 recovery efforts in your downtown, such as micro-marketing grants, district advertising campaigns, matching gift card programs, e-commerce development, or expanding street markets and outdoor seating.
The opportunities for your program to support the community and district are endless, but your program cannot do everything. Out of all the possibilities, what rises to the top?
Move your community closer to achieving its goals! Find out more and apply to present at the third annual Main Street Idea Pitch >>
Applications are due by 5 p.m. September 18, 2020.
