Gov. Spanberger Shines a Light on Downtown Tappahannock

Governor Abigail Spanberger spent Friday, Aug. 14, experiencing the people, places, and partnerships shaping Tappahannock’s future.

Following visits to James H. Cary Intermediate School and VCU Health Tappahannock Hospital, the Governor joined Historic Downtown Tappahannock (HDT) and Town leaders for a walking tour of downtown.

Stops at Java Jacks, Tappahannock Art Gallery, the historic DAW Theater, and 1710 Tavern showcased the vibrant downtown HDT, Tappahannock’s Main Street program, cultivated by supporting small businesses, historic places, entrepreneurs, placemaking, and strategic reinvestment in partnership with the Town.

At 1710 Tavern, Virginia’s oldest tavern, the tour highlighted how a $250,000 DHCD Industrial Revitalization Fund grant helped return a long-vacant landmark tavern and inn to a restaurant, leveraging $1.23 million in private investment.
